Basic Pistol Course - $150 FEE Applies!
This course will cover gun safety rules, proper operation of revolvers and semi-automatic pistols, overview of ammunition and ammunition types, pistol selection and storage, shooting fundamentals, pistol maintenance, marksmanship, and shooting range safety. Course will include live fire on an open range at Cavalier Rifle and Pistol Club. This course will satisfy the training requirements for a concealed carry permit (CCP) application in the state of Virginia. Participants should bring their personal pistol and at least 50 rounds of factory ammunition appropriate for their pistol. We encourage participants to bring their own firearms for this event!
If you do not own a pistol, but would still like to take this course, DWR will be providing loaners for this event and will also provide the appropriate ammunition. If this is the case, please notify us at least 10 days in advance of the course so we can ensure we have equipment available!

Please bring your own lunch/snacks/water to this event! Sunscreen/hat/bug spray recommended!
Instructor Bio
Your instructor for this course is Tracie Haggerty, who is an NRA certified Pistol and Rifle Instructor, and Range Safety Officer. She is passionate about helping people who are unfamiliar and uncomfortable around firearms, to become more knowledgeable and proficient, and to build the confidence needed to handle a firearm safely.
Tracie believes effective firearms training should be practical, informative, and free of intimidation. Her classes focus on building a strong foundation through education, hands-on instruction, with an emphasis on safe and responsible firearm handling.
With over 25 years of experience teaching firearms fundamentals, Tracie creates an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and learning at their own pace. Whether you are considering purchasing your first handgun, want to become more comfortable with a firearm you already own, or simply want to improve your knowledge and safety skills, Tracie’s goal is to help you become a more confident and responsible firearm owner.
